VAST Data and NVIDIA launch Agent Sandbox Foundation Stack for production AI agents

October 22, 2026 · Central Time

VAST Data introduced the Agent Sandbox Foundation Stack in collaboration with NVIDIA at NVIDIA GTC Berlin on October 21, 2026, a dedicated infrastructure stack to run, persist and govern high-volume enterprise AI agent workflows. The stack combines the VAST AI Operating System with NVIDIA NemoClaw and NVIDIA OpenShell runtime security technologies.

The problem it targets is the friction between ephemeral compute and long-term agent state. Production agent deployments spin up short-lived sandboxes, spawn sub-agents and terminate within minutes, or pause and resume across multi-session tasks. Traditional infrastructure either loses state when a sandbox is torn down or incurs heavy storage overhead duplicating working environments.

The stack decouples agent compute from durable state. Using VAST DataStore zero-copy cloning, the platform provisions isolated, policy-controlled OpenShell workspaces on demand without duplicating the underlying datasets, so each sandboxed agent gets a fast, isolated workspace with the data services it needs.

Working memory, intermediate reasoning and execution logs persist in VAST DataBase, letting agents suspend, migrate across compute nodes or resume without losing progress, working data or context. The VAST Management System records a durable audit trail of agent activity, including prompts, tool calls, tokens, costs and decisions, so actions remain auditable wherever execution resumes.

For enterprise platform teams, the release offers a standardized pattern for moving agentic proofs-of-concept into governed production: central state management across dynamic sandboxes prevents memory sprawl, copy-on-write clones reduce storage footprint, and compliance boundaries can be enforced around tool execution.

The caveats: this is an architectural reference stack rather than a turnkey SaaS product. Organizations need compatible VAST AI OS infrastructure alongside NVIDIA-accelerated compute running OpenShell and NemoClaw, and VAST has published no packaged pricing, bundle terms or minimum cluster sizing, pointing teams to public GitHub repository templates and custom enterprise sales engagements.
