ChatGPT Ads expands to 89 countries as advertiser count passes 100,000

October 22, 2026 · Central Time

OpenAI announced on October 21, 2026 that ChatGPT Ads is expanding to 26 additional countries, extending availability to 89 countries worldwide, and that more than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns since the ad platform launched just over eight months ago.

The expansion adds 14 Latin American countries, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru, following launches in Mexico and Brazil, plus markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, including Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

OpenAI says ads appear only on the Free and Go plans; Plus, Pro and Enterprise subscriptions remain ad-free. Advertisers can buy through technology partners or self-serve through Ads Manager.

The company reiterated its ads principles: conversations stay private from advertisers, customer data is not sold, ads are clearly labeled and separate from ChatGPT's answers, and advertising does not influence answers. OpenAI pegged ChatGPT at more than 1.2 billion weekly users.

For marketers, the expansion turns ChatGPT Ads from a test channel into a near-global one, with the pitch centered on reaching people during consideration moments. The next phase, per OpenAI, adds formats, objectives, buying options and measurement capabilities.

For users on free tiers, the practical change is more sponsored placements in more markets; the ad-free guarantee on paid plans makes the subscription boundary the dividing line for the experience.
