GitHub offers included Copilot access for sales-managed Enterprise Cloud accounts

October 28, 2026 · Central Time

GitHub announced on October 28 that enterprises working with a GitHub or Microsoft account team can get Copilot included with GitHub Enterprise for every licensed user. The model is available for Enterprise Cloud through those account teams. It is not an automatic change to every GitHub subscription.

The announcement says self-serve availability will open in stages and is currently unavailable. Existing self-serve subscriptions are unaffected. Copilot Business and Copilot Enterprise remain available to purchase for new and existing enterprises.

Enterprise-account users without a GitHub Enterprise license can receive the same Copilot access through Copilot Standalone at $10 per user per month. GitHub says this access has the same features and models as Copilot Enterprise, but it does not include monthly AI credits per seat.

AI usage is metered from the first request against the enterprise budget using existing policies, alerts and attribution. Included access therefore does not mean unlimited free inference or an included monthly usage allowance. Teams need to separate access licensing from consumption costs.

Code completion and next-edit suggestions continue working when no budget remains. Copilot Chat, code review and Copilot in the cloud need available budget. GitHub says an exhausted budget does not remove the seat or access to features that do not require budget.

The company directs eligible customers to their account teams to set up a new enterprise account on this model or transition an existing account. The announcement does not establish that any particular organization has already migrated. Buyers should confirm account eligibility, the planned transition and expected metered usage before comparing costs with their current plan.
