Black Forest Labs releases FLUX 3 Image Klein, with per-image pricing and license limits

October 15, 2026 · Central Time

Black Forest Labs released FLUX 3 Image Klein on October 15, 2026, with open weights and API access. The company describes a 5.6-billion-parameter image model for generation, editing and compositions using up to ten reference images.

The release includes a base checkpoint for fine-tuning and research and a step-distilled checkpoint for faster generation. Both use the FLUX Kommunity License; open weights do not mean unrestricted use under a permissive open-source license.

The license permits free commercial use for individuals and companies with annual revenue below $5 million, according to Black Forest Labs. Larger organizations need the company's commercial self-hosted licensing options or API access.

The official API documentation prices a 1K-resolution image at $0.009 and a 4K image at $0.036. These are per-image prices by output resolution, not $0.009 for a thousand images. Generation and editing use the same listed rate.

Black Forest Labs says its INT8 build can run on NVIDIA GeForce RTX systems with as little as 8 GB of VRAM. Its reported step-distilled 1-megapixel tests took about four seconds on an RTX 5090 and under nine seconds on an RTX 4070 through ComfyUI. These hardware-specific company benchmarks are not end-to-end performance guarantees.

The company reports support for bounding-box controls, ComfyUI and Diffusers and recommends prompt upsampling for better results. Its quality rankings are internal evaluations. Buyers should test their own editing tasks, hardware and license eligibility rather than treating those rankings as an independent comparison.
