AWS lists October 14 end of life for Claude Sonnet 4 in 23 regions
Amazon Bedrock's legacy model lifecycle table lists October 14, 2026 as the end-of-life date for Claude Sonnet 4, model ID anthropic.claude-sonnet-4-20250514-v1:0, in 23 named AWS Regions. The date is specific to this model version and the regions in its row, rather than a claim that every Anthropic model or every Bedrock region has closed.
The same row lists April 14, 2026 as the Legacy date and July 14, 2026 as the start of public extended access. AWS says lifecycle dates on this page apply to Amazon Bedrock and may differ from dates published by the model provider. The table therefore should not be used as evidence of when Anthropic's separate direct API retired a model.
AWS says a model becomes unavailable on or soon after its end-of-life date and requests to that version will fail, unless the customer and provider have a private arrangement for continued access. This qualification matters. The documentation is not a live test of every customer's endpoint or proof that all requests failed simultaneously on October 14.
The listed regions include us-east-1, us-east-2, us-west-1, us-west-2 and eu-central-1, along with other named regions in Europe, Asia Pacific and Israel. AWS warns that lifecycle state can differ by region and that a model can remain Active elsewhere. It directs customers to ListFoundationModels or GetFoundationModel in their own region to read the modelLifecycle field.
Migration does not happen automatically, according to AWS. Customers need to update application code to use an appropriate active model. A model choice should be checked against the application's own requirements; this lifecycle row does not establish benchmark gains, lower latency, matching output behavior or a particular replacement's token pricing.
AWS also says new Provisioned Throughput cannot be created for Legacy models. Its general extended-access policy allows provider-set higher pricing during that period, but the lifecycle dates do not by themselves establish a customer's final bill or the release of an existing capacity commitment. The practical check is the exact model ID, region and current account arrangement, not a blanket assumption about all Claude access.
