AWS previews Well-Architected Agent with goal-based infrastructure recommendations
AWS announced the public preview of Well-Architected Agent on October 1. The service analyzes an AWS environment and recommends changes for cost, security, performance and resilience. AWS says its analysis uses resource configuration, utilization metrics and application topology across more than 65 services.
Customers create an agent profile that defines the accounts, applications, Regions and optimization priorities in scope. Customer-managed IAM roles provide access to resource configurations, utilization metrics and topology. AWS says resource and application recommendations are generated within 24 hours after profile creation.
Recommendations range from individual resource findings to application-level findings and broader architecture changes. AWS describes dollar impact where applicable, console instructions, CLI commands and Infrastructure as Code changes. These are suggested implementation paths, not a statement that every recommendation will save a specified amount.
The preview also supports architecture reviews before deployment. Customers can upload a ZIP containing an IaC project or repository files and choose a Well-Architected lens. AWS lists Terraform, CloudFormation and the AWS Cloud Development Kit as supported project types for that review.
Access to the agent and its recommendations is available in US East, N. Virginia; US East, Ohio; and US West, Oregon. Workloads can be onboarded from any commercial AWS Region. The service is delivered through AWS Support and requires an AWS Support plan. The launch post does not specify a standalone price.
AWS warns that generative-AI recommendations can contain errors or incomplete information. Teams remain responsible for evaluating changes in their own environment and applying safeguards before implementation. Existing manual reviews through the Well-Architected Tool remain available; this preview does not remove the need for human oversight.
